In the heart of the Gobi Desert in Yiwu County, Hami, Xinjiang, Phase II of the Yiwu Advanced Computing Cluster project has officially entered operation. As a key node in China's national “East Data, West Computing” initiative, the project sets exceptionally high standards for the energy efficiency, reliability, and environmental adaptability of its thermal management systems.
Envicool’s advanced cooling and natural ventilation solutions were adopted to meet these stringent demands. By achieving groundbreaking efficiency metrics — a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of less than 1.2 and a WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) below 1 — the facility has set new green benchmarks for data centers operating in arid, high-altitude regions. The site hosts 250 high-density racks delivering a total computing capacity of 7,000P, making it a critical infrastructure asset in advancing the digital industry in Western China.
Upon its launch, the intelligent computing center will support sectors such as aerospace remote sensing and energy exploration. Envicool will continue to provide localized service support to ensure stable and efficient operations, reinforcing the green transformation of the digital economy in China’s western region.
To meet the challenges posed by Yiwu County’s altitude of over 3,000 meters and annual precipitation of less than 100mm — as well as strict local PUE and WUE regulations — Envicool delivered a suite of innovative solutions. These include:
XMint high-efficiency evaporative cooling composite systems
XRow series high-efficiency in-row air conditioners
Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx)
CyberMate V+ series inverter CRAC
These systems ensure safe and energy-efficient temperature control for high-density computing loads.
Through close collaboration with clients and design institutes, Envicool provided its flagship XMint system, which successfully met all project requirements. XMint incorporates:
Variable-speed magnetic levitation compression technology
Liquid pump-based natural cooling
Evaporative condensation
Multi-split adaptive refrigeration
Together, these technologies overcome the challenges of harsh desert conditions and high altitudes.
Envicool’s XMint system utilizes variable-speed magnetic levitation compression technology, eliminating mechanical friction within the compressor and significantly reducing overall system energy consumption. Additionally, XMint supports oil-free system operation, enabling longer pipeline designs without the risk of oil return issues. This ensures stable performance at altitudes above 3,000 meters while achieving 30% lower energy consumption compared to conventional systems.
In addition, the XMint ststem’s liquid pump circulation and natural cooling architecture automatically responds to ambient temperatures, seamlessly switching operating modes to maximize use of free cooling.
Crucially, the XMint system operates via evaporative cooling in summer and dry-mode operation in winter, eliminating the risk of freezing and effectively addressing cooling challenges in cold, arid environments.
The solution integrates multiple terminal cooling units — including RDHx, XRow series in-row air conditioners, and CyberMate V+ series CRACs — to create an intelligent, multi-layered environmental control system that ensures the safe operation of high-density equipment.
“The Envicool solution perfectly balanced the dual challenges of meeting energy efficiency standards and adhering to a tight construction schedule,” said project manager Xin Shuaibing.
Backed by seven R&D and manufacturing centers and four major technical platforms, Envicool offers comprehensive capabilities spanning product development, engineering, delivery, and after-sales services. The modular product design reduced construction time by 40%, enabling rapid deployment from solution design to final commissioning. With full-chain delivery capabilities, Envicool maintains rigorous quality control across every stage — from R&D to installation — delivering high-quality solutions backed by a robust nationwide service network that ensures timely customer support.
The Yiwu Advanced Computing Cluster project (Phrase II) once again demonstrates Envicool’s technological leadership in data center cooling solutions designed for extreme environmental conditions. With nearly two decades of experience, Envicool has accumulated technical expertise across all climate zones, with successful case studies ranging from deserts to plateaus.
From system design and manufacturing to ongoing operation and maintenance, Envicool provides one-stop turnkey solutions that minimize customer burden and support the rapid growth of national computing infrastructure.
